The Aspens are so beautiful this year all over the state; and the time to paint them is so limited; that I’m going to try something new! I’m giving you several suggested locations and you can decide when you want to go out and paint them! If you want a companion then go to the Forum and post there when and where you are going. You can also post other locations there.

• Silver Plume- either in town or when you go down the I-70 off ramp, keep going straight on the road directly ahead that runs parallel to the road; it will go back under I-70 and go west. There are several spots there along the creek, little pull off places and a mountain view as well as color. RMN
• Further down the Hwy, west of Idaho Springs, towards Downeyville (Sp?), Dumont, Lawson, Georgetown; if you exit and follow the frontage roads going west on the south side of the Hwy, the color is always good there. The old Georgetown cemetery has a lot of aspen around it and nice mountain views too. LA
• Kenosha Pass off 285, almost to South Park is spectacular. Tricia Bass
• The Audubon Center on the southwest side of Denver is really spectacular with yellow from the chamisa and a mountain view. From I-25 & C470, go west on C-470, exit onto Wadsworth, travel south about 4.4 miles. Go PAST the main entrance for Chatfield State Park. Turn left onto Waterton Raod. Immediately turn left into the first parking lot at the Audubon Center sign. Leslie Allen
• The Peak to Peak Scenic and Historic Byway, from Black Hawk/Central City to Nederland and Estes Park has lots of aspen and a view to the west of snow-capped peaks. RMN
• “There's a real pretty field of aspen up Squaw Pass Road out of Evergreen, about 6 miles up from Evergreen Parkway. I'm waiting for snow on the mountains. Watch for it on your right. I just rode my bike up there today and there are several beautiful spots you can pull over and the Aspens are great right now. If you go all the way over Squaw Pass down towards Idaho Springs, watch for a dirt road on your left that goes to Chicago Creek, nice aspens in there too.” Tricia Bass
• ALSO… Cataract Lake outside of Dillon (take Hwy 9 toward Steamboat and watch for the little town of Heney I think it’s called, just before the reservoir, turn left and go maybe 4 miles to Cataract Creek road, also on your left. Tricia Bass
• Piney Lake near Vail is pretty amazing. TB
• I should take a field trip of PAAC members to Cataract Lake. It’s pretty special and not real well known. If you want to tag along sometime call me, but the above should get you started. Tricia 303-271-7295 Any takers?
That should keep you going for awhile! Don’t forget to use the Forum so we know where you are going and when.
